Susan Thrift started the choral program in the China Spring School District in 1995. Today the program has grown to include two 6th grade choirs, two middle school choirs, and two auditioned high school choirs. Under her direction, the high school and middle school choirs consistently win Sweepstakes trophies at UIL Concert and Sightreading contests, as well as receive top ratings in other competitions throughout the year. A native of Waco, Mrs. Thrift discovered her love of music at an early age with the encouragement of her elementary music teacher. She was active in the choir programs throughout her public school career, earning a place in the TMEA Texas All-State Choir the three years she was in high school. Attending on a voice scholarship, she graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Music Education. After teaching for a few years, she stepped back from the teaching profession to raise her family, returning to the field of education when she accepted the choral position with the China Spring schools. Recently Mrs. Thrift has had choral works published by BriLee Music, a division of Carl Fischer Publishing, a well-known music publishing company in our nation. Two of the pieces published were those she had written for the Middle School Girls Choir to perform at UIL contests in 2008 and 2009.
